An Islamic scholar and author from the south Indian state of Kerala, who is visiting the UAE, will deliver in-depth lectures on Islam and its features in Sharjah on Friday and Saturday.

Sheikh Mohammed Karakunnu, who has authored more than 35 books in Malayalam on Islam, and translated more than a dozen books from Arabic, will address a gathering at the Community Hall of Sharjah Indian Association on Friday.

The meeting, which will begin at 8.30 p.m., is open to all and there will be a question and answer session after the address. On Saturday, the scholar will meet the Director of Sharjah Cultural Department.

Karakunnu, who is the director of the Kerala Dialogue Centre, best known for conducting inter-faith dialogues throughout Kerala, will also attend a Table Talk programme at Sharjah Indian Association Hall at 8.30 p.m. the same day.

Karakunnu is the director of the Kozhikode-based Islamic Publishing House, which is the largest publisher of books on Islam in Kerala with more than 400 titles on various topics.

The publishing house has embarked on an ambitious project of publishing a 12-volume Islamic encyclopaedia in Malayalam, six volumes of which have already been published.
