Huge holes in conservation effort

Despite all the discussions at the 2009 Copenhagen climate conference and all the efforts being taken by the local authorities to conserve energy and save electricity, there are still many stores all over Dubai that just do not care.

They use a large amount of electricity to light up the pavement outside the store, rather than the products inside.

At times, I feel silly switching off all the lights of a room as I exit it, especially when such rampant wastage of energy is taking place around the city, without any checks.

The shops that I refer to often have their names spelled out in neon lights and no other lighting is needed to highlight the name.

I fail to understand the purpose of having more than 200 fluorescent lights on the outside of such stores. The authorities should look into this situation.
