Guests at a hotel here have raised Dh50,000 for a UN project to get Iraqi children back to school.
The money was collected from a Dh5 donation from each resident who checked into Al Diar hotel - part of the Abu Dhabi National Hotels Group - from June last year.
The cash will help provide 5,773 Iraqi children with all their school materials for a year under a scheme by Unicef.
The cheque was presented to Unicef representative Omar Shahade at a charity gala dinner at Sands Hotel in Abu Dhabi last week.
Unicef hopes to rebuild the lives of children affected by the Iraq war through the Getting the Iraqi Children Back to School project.
