A medical centre in the capital has initiated a health awareness programme to educate women on various health problems.

It also offers a discounted health package. The programme was launched by Middle East Specialised Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi with a seminar on Wednesday , in which Dr Vipin Thomas, a cardiologist at the centre, described ways of maintaining a healthy heart. The seminar was attended by members of the Indian Ladies Association (ILA).

Dr Thomas said a healthy diet and regular physical exercise can prevent heart diseases. Common risk factors include high cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar, obesity and smoking.

"Relaxation techniques like yoga can help reduce anxiety and manage stress," said the cardiologist.

Rupa Wahi, Business Development Manager of the centre, said the discounted package has been developed for ILA members and the International Business Women's Group (IBWG). It will be offered until October 20.

The package covers dental, dermatology, gynaecology, cardiac, paediatric, obesity, blood count, blood sugar, haemoglobin, serum cholesterol and blood pressure treatment. "These check-ups normally cost Dh200 each but we are offering them at Dh50," she added.

Wahi said the seminar was part of the 'Well Women Series', specifically designed for creating health awareness among women.

The second seminar in the series will be on cardiology and gastroenterology. It will be held at the Kerala Social Centre on October 18.

Wahi said prior appointment is required for availing the discounted health package and further information can be obtained by calling 050-6156247.
