The shortage of nurses is hitting hospitals hard despite desperate efforts to attract local women into the profession and stop the exodus of expatriate nurses migrating to the West.

The measures also include hiring nurses who have not yet gained a Ministry of Health licence, as trainees, to offset the shortage.
