Abu Dhabi: Growing government support and increased private sector participation point to a bright future for the health sector in Abu Dhabi, Dr Ahmad Al Mazroui, Chairman of Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD), said during the official opening of the fourth annual Abu Dhabi Medical Congress (ADMC) on Sunday.
Abu Dhabi remains committed to opening up the health sector to more institutions of international repute while providing quality health care at the local level, he added.
One of the UAE's largest events related to the medical field, the three-day conference kicked off yesterday with leading international health care companies showcasing products and services under five segments — Emergency, Primary Health Care, Patient Safety, Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine.
After touring the ADMC exhibition hall at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec), Dr Al Mazroui spoke to Gulf News about the event.
Greater interaction
"This year's ADMC has grown more than last year. When I say growth, it's not about how big it is — it's about the increased interaction I see this year. It's always a pleasure to visit and inaugurate the ADMC each year. Each time I see new faces and initiatives, which is definitely a step towards creating a world-class health care system."
Asked to rate his top three priorities, he said: "Other than supporting the health care sector in general, my biggest priorities are to help control rising incidence of obesity, diabetes and road traffic accidents. We have already started important prevention methods such as the Weqaya prevention programme for Emiratis and mandatory health insurance, which have both so far encouraged people to get screened and treated."
The ADMC is supported by Health Authority Abu Dhabi, Ministry of Health, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Biotechnology and Research Centre and Dubai Healthcare City.
