Minister hails bid to find solution to growing poverty
Dubai: Food security issues in the face of soaring food prices and the new challenges of climate change and energy security were the main issues discussed on World Food Security: the Challenges of Climate Change and Bio-energy which was held in Rome at the Food and Agriculture Organisation's headquarters (FAO), from June 3-5.
Addressing the conference, Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahd, the UAE Minister of Environment and Water, said that it is unacceptable in the technologically advanced world we live in today, more than 850 million people are living below the poverty line.
Fahd thanked the FAO for joining ranks to find a solution to this problem, adding that on the directives of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE responds swiftly to call for aid.
