SEWA restores electricity swiftly and efficiently across all affected areas in Sharjah

The Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority (SEWA) confirmed that power has been fully restored to all areas affected by Sunday’s brief outage.
SEWA said the restoration was carried out quickly and efficiently, thanks to the intensive efforts of technical teams, bringing normalcy back to homes, residential neighbourhoods, and major shopping hubs such as Sahara Centre.
The outage was caused by a technical fault that triggered the network’s automatic protection systems. These systems isolate faults and shut down affected sections of the grid to prevent wider disruption and ensure overall network stability.
SEWA said the situation was quickly brought under control, with power restored in many areas shortly after the incident. Electricity in remaining locations was reinstated in phases following mandatory safety checks.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to high standards of reliability and service continuity, part of ongoing efforts to modernise Sharjah’s utility infrastructure.
The Sharjah Government Media Bureau confirmed the outage on X (formerly Twitter), calling it an “unforeseen technical issue.” Officials said emergency teams were working to restore electricity as quickly as possible while following strict safety protocols.
Residents experiencing ongoing issues were advised to contact SEWA’s emergency helpline or follow official channels for updates. The authority also informed the public that full power restoration was expected within four hours.
Building management companies sent SMS alerts attributing the outage to the main grid, prompting a surge of calls to SEWA’s hotline, where operators reiterated the four-hour restoration timeline.
Power outages were reported by residents across multiple districts, including Al Nahda, Al Taawun, Al Majaz 3, Muweilah, Buhairah Corniche, Al Zahia, and Kalba.
While the main outage was unexpected, some residents had been notified in advance of scheduled maintenance. A Government of Sharjah notice had planned a power disconnection in Al Majaz 3 from 8am to 2pm.
Areeba Hashmi, who lives on the 15th floor in Al Majaz, had to climb all the stairs when the elevators were temporarily out of service during a power outage. She described the experience as tiring but confirmed that power has since been restored in her area.
Residents also reported disruptions to internet connectivity during the outage. “My data is working sporadically,” one resident said.
Another added, “True. I didn’t have any connection when the power was out.” Some suggested the issue may have been linked to affected telecom towers.
The disruption affected daily routines across the emirate, with the severity varying by location. While some areas faced prolonged outages, a resident in Abu Shagara reported a brief 15-minute interruption before supply was restored.
“Sharjah Sustainable City is back,” one resident said, while others noted, “Aljada is still down.” Electricity has returned in Muwaileh and Al Nahda, but some areas, including Al Majaz 2, experienced intermittent supply.
“We got it back for a second, then it went out again,” one resident commented. Meanwhile, residents in Al Khan reported that power is still off.
Meanwhile, residents reported power outages across multiple parts of Sharjah, citing disruptions in both residential neighbourhoods and major commercial hubs, and highlighting the impact of the outage on daily life.
