Education minister urged to quit over graft
Three Indian Union Muslim League leaders demanded Rs250,000 as bribe from Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Dr Yuhanon Mar Philoxinos for not cancelling an NOC issued for a teacher's training college, according to a complaint received by Chief Minister A.K. Antony.
Disclosing this here, P.C. George, MLA, distributed copies of the written complaint from the Metropolitan and called for the resignation of Education Minister Nalakath Soopy.
The complaint filed on January 5 said the NOC for the BEd college was issued in December 2002 but it had now been cancelled for refusing to give the demanded sum for building a League House at Malappuram.
The Metropolitan said the three IUML leaders from Wayanad P.C. Ahmed, P.P.V. Moosa and N. Mammootty personally came to the Bishop House and demanded the bribe.
