UAE University held its 25th graduation ceremony last week in Al Ain. The graduates were honoured by Her Highness Shaikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Al Nahyan. Rania Al Hussaini spoke to some of them about their achievements and what they will miss most about university
What it's like leaving university...
"I feel proud that I have achieved something on my own. My advice to students who are going to join college is to concentrate on their studies. Prove yourselves and be active members of your country."
- Omar Al Marzouqi, medicine
"My feelings are a mixture of sadness and happiness, because now I have to work, leave my friends and the education field. I will miss the students, the lectures, the professors, the late study nights and sitting on campus. If I had the chance to go back I would definitely organise my time."
- Shakbout Al Badrawi, medicine
"It wasn't easy to graduate with an honours degree. It took lots of hard work, time and dedication. I advise students to have a clear vision, use the facilities to learn as many skills as possible because that is what will help you to face challenges in future. Stay focused, study well, be ambitious and dedicated.
- Salman Al Tameme, engineering/business
"I am proud of myself. What you can get today, you might not be able to get tomorrow. So students make use of this opportunity, organise your time, work hard and enjoy yourselves. I have enjoyed every moment in college, but if I can go back I will probably work a bit harder."
- Hussain Al Khateri business
"I am happy and satisfied with what I have achieved. I advise students to choose a major which is in demand in the market and go in for career counselling. You should never hesitate to ask questions and collect information. I will miss the clean, friendly environment, assignments and research."
- Abed Al Hafeez Al Herbawi, material engineering
"It has been an amazing experience. My advice to my juniors is to be confident, make the right decisions and read a lot to upgrade your knowledge. Don't forget the importance of team spirit and study on a daily basis."
- Mokoul Janjal, business
"My scholarship gave me the motivation to work hard, compete, study and be challenged. Students should be hard working and be able to divide their time between work and fun."
- Shihab Mohammad, materials science and engineering
