Schools reopen in UAE after summer break

Some 790,000 students in the country are expected to return to school on Sunday

Dubai: It's back to school for students as most of the public and private schools reopened after summer holidays on Sunday.

Early on Sunday morning, students could be seen waiting for their buses, all set to get back into their old routine. Some 790,000 students are expected to return to school on Sunday, according to the Minister of Education.

While for more than half of the schools here, the opening marks the beginning of a new academic year, for many, it is the start of a new term.

"I am looking forward to meeting my friends after almost two months of holidays. It will be studies and more studies as soon our tests will start," said Kanika, a grade 10 student.

Philomena Abranches, a mother whose daughter is in grade 3, said: "Once again, my regular day starts at 5am as my daughter's school bus arrives at 6:10am. I put her to sleep early and while she is all charged up, it will take me a while to get back to the routine."

Dubai has more than 200 private and public schools with over 2,00000 students, according to 2009-2010 statistics from the Knowledge Human Development Authority.
