 265 AUS students honoured at special convocation
Sharjah The American University of Sharjah celebrated the achievements of 265 of its most distinguished students at its Annual Honours Convocation held last week on campus. The students were on the Chancellor’s Distinguished List. To qualify for the list, a student must have been named on both the Fall 2008 Dean’s List and the Spring 2009 Dean’s List and have maintained a cumulative GPA (Grade Point Average) of 3.5 or above.

Murdoch University Dubai’s first MBA batch
Dubai Murdoch University Dubai saw its first batch of about 10 MBA students graduate at a ceremony recently. Murdoch University’s vice chancellor Professor John Yovich came from Perth, Australia to congratulate them. “Our MBA programme has proven popular with students attracted to gaining an Australian degree that can be completed in just one year,” he said. “Demand for the course continues to rise with 60 MBA students currently enrolled and further enrolments expected during our January, May and August intakes.”

New scholarship fund established at AUS
Sharjah The American University of Sharjah (AUS) last week announced the establishment of the Dh5 million Yusri Al Dwaik Pioneer Scholarship Fund to support the education of deserving students in the Arab world. The scholarship is funded by the Al Dwaik family — Amjad, Ayman, Areej and Lina — in honour of their late father Yusri Al Dwaik. Priority will be given to Palestinians. AUS will match the donation.

DWC holds mock job interviews
Dubai Dubai Women’s College (DWC) recently organised a Mock Job Interview Day for more than 300 final year students. It provided a realistic set up with every student being interviewed by a panel of two DWC teachers/staff members, who judged student interview performance, as well as their CV and cover letter writing competencies. “I was well prepared for the interview and this was a training session for the real job interview,” said Farah Humaid, a Higher Diploma Business student. The college organises the event annually as a part of students’ vocational training in the English curriculum.

DWC hosts Student Midwife Forum
Dubai Dubai Women’s College (DWC) recently hosted 45 participants at a Student Midwife Forum held in collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority. The one-day forum brought together midwifery students from DWC and the University of South Australia. DWC students blended theory with practice while presenting a sketch showcasing the need to enhance the scope of midwifery education and practice in the country. During workshops students worked in groups answering key questions based on culture, education, the future of midwifery practice and the challenges ahead.

AUE launches new Foundation Programme
Dubai The American University in the Emirates (AUE) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research/Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) to offer a foundation programme that helps high school students with scores below 60 per cent to continue their studies at the university level. New student scholarships at MSU
Dubai Michigan State University (MSU) Dubai has announced a scholarship programme that will support the first 100 transfer students seeking admission at its Dubai campus for January 2010. The scholarship awards will cover 50 per cent of the tuition costs for the duration of the programme until the end of the senior (4th) year. The deadline for applications is November 30.
