Abu Dhabi: The Community Police have launched a new project, Mehnaty (my profession), a summer training programme targeted at school students in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC)
Mehnaty, which was launched on July 4 and will continue throughout the rest of the month, aims to introduce students to professional life, as well as raise awareness on their civic duties.
As many as 110 students, up to high school level, will take part in the project. They will be spread out in different police stations across the capital, with 20 working with police training, 30 with the external regions police, 40 with Al Ain police and 20 with Al Gharbiya police.
Colonel Mubarak Awad Bin Muhayroum, Director of the Community Police Department, explained that the summer training is part of a strategy to protect the youth as well as introduce them to police work. It also helps school students in making the most of their summer holidays.
During the campaign, students will visit a number of police departments across the capital such as the fire department and the Abu Dhabi Traffic department.
The Al Khalidiyah Police and Community Police departments have joined forces to prepare a programme that will last a full week, in which the students will be able to see the inside of fire departments and an actual ‘crime scene' in a police college.
They will also be taken on excursions to Sammaliya Island and officer's club. These excursions will aim at combining both entertainment and education so that the students can get the most out of the experience and maximise their learning while enjoying their summer vacation.
Excursion
Around 23 students have already been taken to Sammaliya, where they enjoyed the experience of visiting the stables of Arabian camels and horses, as well as getting a chance to ride them. They also got the chance to sail on an old Arabian boat and be exposed to a wide range of activities related to the UAE heritage.
Salem Khalifa Al Gaithi, Director of the island, stressed to the students the importance of learning about their heritage and their ancestor's and country's history.
"Police and Adec are keen that students use their time wisely and start from an early age to build up awareness of their civic duties and responsibilities," said Mohammad Salem Al Daheri, in charge of summer programmes in Adec.
"It is also a good opportunity for the students to be introduced to different obligations, tasks and responsibilities they will undoubtedly be facing in their professional lives," he added.
