Dubai: The number plate E 30 fetched Dh4 million at an auction organised by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Total proceeds from the 59th special number plates auction exceeded Dh23.5 million.

The other two-digit number which everyone also wanted was F 59.

There was fierce competition among 200 bidders for the three-digit number plate F 100, pushing the price of this number to Dh2.3 million. This boosted total proceeds of three-digit numbers on offer, including F 400, F 250, F 112, to Dh8.1 million.

The four-digit numbers group was topped by F 1111 which was sold for Dh1.8 million, triggering a heated bidding on this series of special numbers.

These numbers include 1111, 3333, 1177, 2244, 6677, 5550, 6660, 9990, 1003, 2001, and 6009 as well as other numbers under E, F, G, and H categories. Total proceeds of this series amounted to Dh5.8 million.

The fierce bidding carried through to the five-digit numbers. Total earnings from this series reached Dh 4.6 million, topped by the number plate F 22222 which was sold for Dh800,000.

Plan to upgrade

Ahmad Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA Licensing Agency, said that the auction attracted a wide spectrum of bidders from all UAE emirates

"This is why RTA is keen to upgrade the auction, be it in mechanisms, or offering new numbers to meet the requirements of these people who desire obtaining special number plates," he said.
