CSS and Dnata scored exciting victories in their semifinals clashes against Emirates Bank Int. and Lloyds TSB Bank respectively.
Batting first, CSS lost their inform opener Kashif Ahmed for just 6. Former Kerala Ranji Trophy pacer Usman Kutty picked the first two wickets. One-drop Syed Maqsood (36) tried to lift the team out of trouble with Asghar Ali (25) and put on 49 runs for the third wicket.
After the exit of Maqsood and Ali, Skipper Naeemullah too full control and hit up a quick 42 with two sixes and two fours off 30 balls.
Emirates Bank began slowly but lost wickets at regular intervals to Naeemullah. Despite a late effort by Zulfiqar (34), the bankmen failed to reach the target. Naeemullah sparkled with the ball too picking 3 for 30.
The Dnata-Lloyds Bank clash was also a closely fought one. Opener Peter Rodrigues (72) gave Dnata a superb start along with Marlon Fernando (54). The pair put on 121 runs for the opening wicket in 19.5 overs.
Chasing the target, despite good knocks from Suranjit Dharmasena, A. Vijay and CTK Mashood, the bankmen could not reach the target.
In the Mobil Cup matches, Evergreen and Classic Advertisers scored exciting identical six wicket victories over their opponents.
