Woman's body found in sea identified by father

Dubai: The body of an Asian woman found by Dubai Police off the coast of Al Mamzar was identified by her father on Wednesday.

According to Colonel Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of the Criminal Investigation Department of Dubai Police, the father filed a missing person report on Tuesday night.

The father of the 36-year-old woman filed a missing person report at Al Qusais Police Station following the absence of his mentally challenged daughter from their Al Qusais residence.

The father was called in by Dubai Police to identify the floating body of the woman who was found on Wednesday at around 6am off the coast of Mamzar.

Her mental disability was the cause of her drowning, Colonel Al Mansouri said, ruling out any criminal involvement.

Colonel Mohammad Jasem, Director of Dubai Police Ports Station said in an interview with Gulf News that since the body was found floating, the woman could have drowned around two days earlier.

"She was found fully dressed and with one of her slippers still on while the other was found elsewhere. However, we didn't find a single personal belonging in the area nor was there any bruise or scratch on her body," he said.

The body was not carried by currents because it was caught by the dividing rope that is normally used to set apart the swimming areas from the deep or non-swimming area.

The initial medical forensic examination ruled out suicide and classified it as a case of drowning, he said.
