Dubai: A man has been jailed for a year for attempting to murder his cousin with a kitchen knife after they fought over a Dh11,500 loan.
The Dubai Court of First Instance heard that the 22-year-old Bangladeshi worker, M.S., stabbed his 26-year-old cousin S.J. three times.
Records said M.S. grabbed the knife from a cupboard and stabbed his cousin’s face, hand and chest. S.J’s was saved after he was taken to hospital.
“I did not attempt to kill him,” said M.S.
Presiding judge Wajdi Al Menyawi said the accused will be deported following the completion of his jail term.
S.J. said the incident took place at his home in the Naif area on December 9.
“M.S. asked me to go down to the building’s entrance because he wanted to discuss our financial dispute with me. I had paid him Dh11,500 to find me a job and issue a labour visa...and he never did. He also failed to repay the money. When I demanded he return my money he got angry and took out the knife then stabbed me. He fled, meanwhile I fell down injured,” he said.
An Emirati policeman testified the suspect admitted that he stabbed his cousin due to a financial dispute.
The ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
