UAE diplomat accused of smuggling gold in India

Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate situation, after diplomat was detained at Indian airport for 12 hours

Abu Dhabi: An Emirati diplomat was detained last evening at New Delhi airport for 12 hours on charges of smuggling gold, which is against Indian rules, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry has called in the diplomat for investigation into the alleged irregularities. A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stressed the ministry’s commitment to diplomatic laws of countries where diplomats serve.
