Sharjah: In a bid to further boost interaction with the public, Sharjah Police launched a YouTube channel on Thursday.
The first-of-its-kind initiative in the country was launched by Major General Humaid Mohammad Al Hudaidi, commander in chief of Sharjah Police, at a conference at the Sharjah Police Academy. The channel transmits live shots of Sharjah Police going about their work.
The public can access the channel on YouTube by searching for the keywords ‘Sharjahpolice’s channel’ in either English or Arabic.
“It aims to assist the community to understand the force better, promoting the force’s positive image and garnering confidence and support from the public,” Major General Al Hudaidi said.
The channel features a variety of videos drawn into six categories namely Latest Update, Editor’s Choice, Crime Prevention, Police Work, Events and Activities and Public Appreciation.
The channel will highlight the achievements and vision of Sharjah Police through videos and, to enrich its content, clubs are encouraged to produce videos depicting the varied nature of police work.
Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said the channel was another step in the Ministry of Interior’s strategy to strengthen communication with the public through social media following the launch of Sharjah Police’s interactive Twitter and Facebook portals.
The channel aims to consolidate the principle of interaction between leaders and the public and to allow people around the world to follow up on activities and initiatives adopted by Sharjah Police. It will also allow the public to send videos they have recorded.
Maj Gen Al Hudaidi said Sharjah Police had developed numerous channels to communicate with all members of society to enable their participation in the promotion of security. He said the public’s interaction with the police on Twitter or Facebook helped the force respond faster to calls for assistance.
