Sharjah Police have arrested three young men who allegedly broke into a number of homes and also raped a housemaid.

The three Emirati suspects were arrested within hours of the rape, a Sharjah Police official confirmed,

An official at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Sharjah Police said the housemaid's sponsor was taken aback when he returned home and found the Sri Lankan housemaid in a state of extreme panic and fear.

Extreme distress

"The victim was crying and in extreme distress and when her employer calmed her down, she explained that three unknown men entered the house and that two of them raped her," said an official at Sharjah Police.

"The men entered the home with the intention of robbing the house but when they saw the victim, they took advantage of the situation and abused her," he said.

A CID team was formed immediately and, after collecting evidence, police were able to narrow down the whereabouts of the suspects.

"In less than 12 hours, the suspects aged between 19 and 22 were detained; they all admitted to robbing several homes," said the police official.

Upon raiding the suspects' houses, police recovered the stolen items.

Based on the youths' confessions, the case has been transferred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
