Dubai: Three farm workers have been arrested in Sharjah for producing and selling counterfeit UAE money for small amounts of cash.

The case has been transferred to the public prosecutor.

Sharjah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department were tipped off about the activities of the Bangladeshi men, who were said to be making counterfeit money on a farm in Al Dhaid, where they also lived and worked.

M.W.A., M.B.L. and M.Q.A. were arrested during a raid on the farm. A large amount of fake money and equipment to make the money was also found.

The authorities also said that one of the suspects had come into the country a while ago and was living and working in Sharjah illegally.

Col Arif Mohammad Al Shamsi, Director of the Central District of Sharjah Police, urged people to notify the authorities if they suspect anyone is residing in the country illegally.

He also warned against hiring illegal workers.
