Man jailed for fatal fight over parking
Dubai: The case of a Filipino visitor who gave an Indian driver a 'deadly strike' over a parking scuffle concluded recently after a court sent the defendant to prison.
The Dubai Court of Cassation confirmed the initial verdict, three years in jail, against the Filipino who was found guilty of giving the victim a fatal punch after quarrelling over parking priority in front of a church.
The 27-year-old accused, J.K., will be deported after serving his term.
The court found J.K. guilty of beating to death the Indian who succumbed to cerebral concussion and severe bleeding.
The Public Prosecution charged him with publicly defaming the victim and beating him to death after scuffling over a parking space.
The accused will also spend an additional month in jail for defamation.
J.K.'s uncle, who was driving the vehicle, dropped his wife and flatmate to church and was waiting for a parking space. When J.K.'s uncle tried to park his car, the victim raced him to the parking spot.
Court records showed that the Filipino yelled at the victim for cutting off his uncle from the space.
A heated argument broke out between the two who exchanged 'verbal abuse'. The uncle pulled back his nephew and they went to park the car elsewhere.
As J.K. and his uncle were walking towards the church, the victim and two of his friends blocked their path and wanted to fight with the defendant.
Another argument broke out and the Filipino reportedly punched the victim several times, knocking him down.
Dubai A worker who gave his colleague a fatal blow to his head following a scuffle over a cooking list was jailed yesterday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance sentenced the 23-year-old Pakistani, identified as M.R., to five years in jail for beating his compatriot to death. He will be deported after serving his jail term.
"I punched him on his head, but I didn't have any intention of killing him and I wasn't even aware that he had died because of the blow," the accused told the court last week.
The Public Prosecution charged him with beating his compatriot worker, A.S., to death.
A 33-year-old Pakistani worker, K.N., the victim's roommate, said: "I came out of the shower and saw the suspect standing beside the bed where the victim lay motionless.
"I called the victim several times, but to no avail ... he didn't reply. When I asked M.R. what had happened, he said they had quarrelled over the price list of cooking and kitchen tools. He said he punched the victim in the face and the latter fell on the bed motionless."
The witness told his colleagues and they informed their Egyptian supervisor.
The accused confessed to the public prosecution that he punched the victim when they were preparing their monthly price list. "The worker had agreed earlier that the victim was in charge of preparing the list of cooking needs and collecting the monthly payments. We scuffled while preparing the list," admitted the accused.
Medical reports said the victim died due to severe bleeding in the brain. The initial verdict is still subject to appeal.
