Dubai Police impound 101 e-bikes, issue 130 fines over reckless riding

Dubai Police have detected several youths riding electric bikes at speeds exceeding 100 km/h, prompting warnings for parents to monitor their children and ensure they follow safety rules.
Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Assistant Commandant for Operations Affairs at Dubai Police, confirmed traffic patrols apprehended teenagers riding modified e-bikes on jogging and walking tracks in Nad Al Sheba and other areas across the emirate.
“This behaviour poses serious risks to track users, including athletes and pedestrians, as well as to the young riders themselves,” he said.
Al Mazrouei stressed that electric bikes designed for recreational use or light commuting should not be used on sports tracks. Some individuals modify these bikes to increase their speed, making them comparable to motorcycles and posing dangers to both riders and others, while violating regulations.
Following complaints from the community, Dubai Police, in collaboration with partners, conducted field campaigns to curb reckless behaviour. Offenders were apprehended, legal actions were taken, and parents were summoned to raise awareness about unsupervised riding.
In the past week, the General Department of Traffic impounded 101 e-bikes and issued 130 fines across the emirate for improper use and high-speed operation in unauthorised areas. Al Mazrouei noted that these figures underline the seriousness of the problem and the need for greater monitoring and community awareness.
The Assistant Commandant warned that parental neglect and limited supervision contribute to unsafe behaviour among children. Families were urged to educate children on safe e-bike practices, including using designated tracks and wearing helmets and reflective vests.
Dubai Police will continue traffic awareness initiatives in residential areas and along jogging and walking tracks. “In cooperation with strategic partners, these efforts aim to foster a culture of safety, promote positive behaviours, and create a safe environment for all road users and athletes,” Al Mazrouei concluded.
