Police set up road checkpoints to catch reckless riders, promoting safer road behaviour
Dubai: Dubai Police seized 656 electric scooters in 2024 after their riders were found violating traffic regulations, according to Al Barsha Police Station.
The figure was revealed during an inspection visit by Major General Harib Mohammed Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, as part of the force’s annual performance review of police stations and departments.
Accompanying him on the visit were senior officials, including Ahmad Thani bin Ghalita, Acting Assistant Commandant for Criminal Investigation Affairs; Major General Expert Dr. Mohammad Issa Al Adhab, Chairperson of the Police Stations Directors’ Council; Brigadier Majid Al Suwaidi, Director of Al Barsha Police Station; and Colonel Yusuf Thani Al Muhairi, Deputy Director.
During the visit, Maj. Gen. Al Shamsi reviewed the station’s key performance indicators for the past year, covering emergency response times, crime rates, and road safety statistics. A standout achievement was a 100 per cent response rate, with officers attending all reported incidents on time.
He also examined ongoing efforts to reduce serious road accidents and enhance public safety. As part of these initiatives, the station has established road checkpoints to target reckless scooter riders and promote safer riding behaviour.
Maj. Gen. Al Shamsi commended the efforts of the Administrative Affairs Section, which supports staff through programs focused on well-being, training, and motivation. As a result, the station achieved a 97 per cent employee satisfaction rate in 2024.
All staff members received recognition for their contributions, and 90 per cent completed at least one training program during the year, reflecting the station's strong emphasis on professional development and morale.
