Ajman: The Ajman Police has announced a blanket ban on the use of electric scooters and similar two-wheeled vehicles on all public roads and streets, citing growing safety concerns and a surge in traffic violations involving the popular mode of transport.

The decision, effective immediately, comes as part of Ajman efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents linked to reckless e-scooter use.

Ajman police urged residents to comply with the new regulations and avoid riding in unauthorised areas, emphasising the need to prioritise public safety.

The ban follows a recent warning issued by Ajman Police last month after video footage captured numerous riders flouting traffic laws. The clips showed e-scooter users riding without helmets, weaving through traffic, moving against the flow on one-way streets, and misusing pedestrian crossings, practices that endanger both riders and pedestrians.

Under the new rules, all types of electric scooters, including privately owned and rental models, are prohibited on public thoroughfares. Violators could face fines or confiscation of their vehicles, though authorities did not immediately specify penalties.
