Dubai housemaid on trial for stealing sponsor's money

Dubai: A housemaid is on trial for pocketing money from her sponsor's pants which he left in his room when he went to the gym.

The Public Prosecution charged the 35-year-old Filipina housemaid, N.M., with stealing Dh14,240 from her British sponsor, J.T.

The suspect pleaded guilty when she appeared before the Dubai Court of First Instance.

"She started stealing money just two days after she arrived to my place... the first time she pocketed Dh2,000. Initially I thought I had misplaced the money because I am used to keeping money inside my pocket and I didn't suspect her. I lost another Dh1,000 four weeks later... then I lost another amount. I decided to test her and placed some cash in different pockets," the Briton testified before the Public Prosecution.

The claimant alleged that the suspect took money from his pocket when he went to the gym.

"I discovered Dh240 was missing and walked towards the housemaid who confessed that she stole the amount. She denied stealing any other amount but then she claimed that she lost the money," the sponsor told his interrogators.
