Dubai Police have seized a vehicle after a video showed its driver swerving dangerously across lanes on Al Ittihad Road, putting the lives of other motorists at serious risk, Emarat Al Youm reported.
The video, which captured the alarming incident in the early hours of Friday morning, showed the veering erratically from right to left, nearly colliding with other vehicles and a central barrier. Witnesses described the behaviour as reckless and deeply unsettling.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of Dubai Police’s General Department of Traffic, confirmed that the driver was swiftly identified and that the vehicle was impounded immediately. Legal action has been taken in accordance with the emirate’s strict traffic laws.
A witness, who documented the footage after noticing the car’s erratic movements near the Al Qiyadah tunnel towards Sharjah, said he initially assumed the driver was distracted—perhaps using a phone. But it quickly became apparent that the individual was behaving in a dangerously unstable manner.
“The car swerved sharply to the right, nearly hitting another vehicle, then suddenly veered left toward the median,” the witness reported. “Other drivers began to steer clear, clearly alarmed.”
According to the footage, the motorist committed multiple traffic violations, including reckless driving that endangered public safety, sudden lane changes, and failure to remain in the designated lane.
The incident was handled under Decree No. 30 of 2023, which authorises the impoundment of vehicles involved in serious offences and imposes a fine of Dh50,000 for release.
Brigadier bin Suwaidan reiterated Dubai Police’s zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving and praised public cooperation in reporting dangerous road behaviour. He urged residents to use the “Police Eye” platform on the Dubai Police app or call the “We Are All Police” service by dialling hotline 901 to report violations. “Community vigilance is a vital part of road safety,” he said.
