Al Ain: The Traffic Police have issued a fog warning for drivers, asking them to be alert on roads known for late night and early morning visibility problems in the colder winter conditions in and around Al Ain.

Colonel Mohammad Khalifa Al Khaili, Head of Al Ain Traffic Police and Patrols Section, said dense fog was a regular feature in the region during the winter. Drivers need to adhere to traffic rules and must be more alert in such conditions, he said.

"Drivers must leave enough distance between vehicles to avoid accidents and must not drive when under physical or mental stress or when tired as lack of attention can endanger their safety and that of others," he said.

He said driving in foggy conditions was not safe. When visibility is not good, drivers must avoid driving and stop vehicles at safe places away from the road.

"Motorists must also maintain their vehicles properly and keep windscreens, the front and rear side windows, and lights clean. They must also ensure their car lights work and check the wear and tear of tyres," he added.

Colonel Al Khaili said people should also be aware of the weather forecast before embarking on any long distance, late night, or early morning journeys so as to choose the right time to travel. Drivers should also slow down and follow the speed limit on all roads, and also be alert at turning points in tunnels.

The police chief also warned motorcyclists to equip their bikes with reflectors and lights so as to be more visible in residential neighbourhoods, main streets, and off road tracks during rainy and foggy conditions.

"Motorcyclists also need to demonstrate responsibility on off-road and sandy tracks, as many families enjoy walking in foggy conditions," he said.
