Dubai: Police have denied media reports about abduction attempts of children in some schools in Dubai, describing the stories as rumours.

“Not a single abduction or attempt has been reported to police so far this year,” Brigadier Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said on Thursday.

“The news stories and warnings circulated by some schools are baseless, and the security situation in Dubai is very good,” he added.

Brig Al Mansouri urged the public not to take part in spreading such rumours through social media and BlackBerry messages.

“People must understand that in most cases an adult speaks to a child or a teenagers without bad intentions, and we can’t presume that whenever a man approaches a child he is planning to abduct the child or hurt him,” he said
