Dubai: An eight million tonne capacity plant to recycle construction waste into road and construction material has been launched by the Al Rostamani Group.

Emirates Recycling LLC will be dedicated to the recycling and recovery of the city's construction and demolition waste.

The Emirates Recycling plant, built at a cost of over Dh65 million and located in the Al Lusaily area on the Al Ain-Jebel Ali road, will operate at full capacity by September.

According to Dubai Municipality, 10.5 million tonnes of construction and demolition waste was handled in 2006. This amount makes up 75 per cent of the total waste generated in Dubai every year.

The new plant will ensure that there will be no stockpile of incoming waste material, and will also reduce reliance on freshly quarried rock material.
