Thirty-two children performed a play on peace yesterday as part of the Seventh Harvest Festival closing activities.

The play, which will be performed today also at the Sharjah Theatre Art Institute, depicts the victory of love and peace over struggles. It was a call made by children to the world to work for peace.

Dawood Sulaiman, director of the play and supervisor of theatrical activities at children's centres, said modern audio-visual technology and sound and light effects were used.

Children from the Khor Fakkan Centre presented the play which was written by Ahmad Sulaiman Al Hammadi, Supervisor of Children's Centres at the Eastern Zone.

Following the play, Amnah Ahmad Sulaiman from Khor Fakkan Centre recited a poem on the singing of a bird through which purity of nature, God's graces and love between man and birds was portrayed.

Children from Muleiha Centre presented an operetta through which they stressed the importance and meaning of hard work and cooperation.

A large numbers of parents, the public, as well as officials at the centres, attended the play.

The two-month festival will close on August 8, preceded by week-long activities portraying talents of students who joined the children's centres, said Ihsan Musabbah Al Suweidi, Director General of the Children's Centres.

"During the summer vacation, children's centres focus on organising activities to help hone their talents and skills. The activities are also aimed at discovering talents of students away from the school curricula," she said.

Activities will include a computer exhibition from August 10 to 12, science exhibition from August 11 to 13 and art exhibition from August 12 to 14.
