School children of more than 23 summer centres are being taught Islamic ideals and principles in addition to the basic programme of the Holy Quran Memorisation.

These centres, held in the mosques of Fujairah and other parts of the emirate along the East Coast, are open every summer to teach school children recitation and memorisation of the Holy Quran and how to behave responsibly in society.

A source from the Fujairah Welfare Association said these summer centres are arranged to keep school children busy in useful activities during the summer vacation.

"The Holy Quran memorisation centres aim at enhancing the importance of the Quran to Muslims so that they live a better life. It also helps pupils to learn about the ideals and morals of Islam to behave responsibly in society," the source said.

He pointed out by encouraging pupils to study and memorise some chapters of the Holy Quran helps them improve their thinking, enhances their intellect and strengthens their social ties, as they acquire some useful social habits which help them feel a sense of belonging to their family, society and their country.

"The Fujairah Welfare Assoc-iation will give valuable gifts and cash awards to every pupil who memorises one chapter or more from the Holy Quran. This encourages them to be more committed to their religion and to the Islamic principles," he added.

Meanwhile, all the pupils taking part in the Holy Quran memorisation summer centres will be taken to the Natural History Museum in Sharjah and the Sharjah University Library.

"We want to instill in our pupils a sense of great feeling of happiness when they memorise a chapter or more from the Holy Quran. They should learn that the Holy Quran is a source of man's relief from stress. It gives knowledge and brings serenity to life," the source said.
