Mohammed Al Hindi, a prominent Islamic Jihad leader in the Gaza Strip, believes a ceasefire agreement will not be reached between the Palestinians and Israel because the incoming prime minister, Ahmad Qorei, has no Israeli guarantees.

Al Hindi, who has been in hiding for the past few weeks avoiding Israel's threats to kill Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders, said Qorei is working hard to persuade the Palestinian factions to agree to an unconditional ceasefire. He reiterated his group's strategy is resistance, which is the only "language Israel understands".

"Israel doesn't want any political solution with the Palestinians or stabilising the situation. Sharon wants to continue the situation of no war-no peace to complete his plans that include the building of the security fence, expanding colonies and putting an end to the Palestinian resistance," Al Hindi said.

"Israel must understand the Palestinian people will never surrender; Palestinians will stay like a thorn in the occupation pharynx," he said.

"As long as occupation remains, we will confront it with all our strength, they must pull out from our land if they want to talk about ceasefire," he added.

Twenty-seven reserve combat pilots shook the Israeli establishment last week by saying they would refuse to launch attacks on Palestinian towns because they were illegal and immoral, and Al Hindi said this shows "how filthy and dirty these attacks carried out by these helicopter and warplanes, and it shows how immoral they are".
