Boy who died after falling from high rise was blind

Sharjah: A boy, 3, fell to his death on Thursday morning from the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Sharjah, police said.

Police said they were interviewing the family, which is from Syria, about the incident at the Al Buhairah police station.

The incident took place at the 44-storey Al Yarmouk Tower, near Sahara Centre, at about 7am on Thursday

According to a watchman at Al Yarmouk Tower, the father of the victim, identified as Sulaiman, works for a construction firm in Abu Dhabi and comes to see his family on weekends.

"He was supposed to come by the evening (Thursday), but the police in Sharjah asked the father to come for questioning as the mother was transferred to Kuwaiti Hospital due to nervous break down."

The mother of the boy was waiting downstairs for the school bus along with her two daughters when the incident happened.

Boy fell 45 metres

She went up to her home where she discovered that her son who was leaning from the balcony had fell down.

 A neighbour who saw the body of the boy falling before it reached the ground was also suffering from nervous shock and said that he would vacate the building soon.

"The family has been residing in the tower for less than three months and have very little contacts with the neighbours," a neighbour said.

The victim, identified as Mohammad Sulaiman Jadallah Al Mosleh, 3, was blind from birth.

According to investigators, the door of the balcony was left open with chairs on the balcony.

"It seems that the child had climbed on the chair and jumped from the balcony," a source from the police told Gulf News.
