Dr. Azad Moopen's Group, one of the leading names in the UAE's healthcare industry, is embarking on a Dh50 million investment programme, including setting up facilities at the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC).

Other plans include a 60-bed hospital offering speciality services near Safa Park on Sheikh Zayed Road, which will be commissioned by mid-2004, and expanding to other Gulf countries starting with Al Rafa Polyclinic and Medinova Diagnostic Centre in Doha by this month.

Chairman Dr. Azad Moopen said the group has plans to establish a pharmacy chain to be named 'Medshop' throughout the GCC with at least 50 outlets. It will also offer franchises throughout the GCC, which will boost the brand image of the group.

The group has already entered into arrangements with DHCC to acquire property there. Setting up a clinic within the DHCC is also on the agenda prepared by the group for the immediate future.

The group - which has a turnover of Dh50 million and serves over 150,000 patients a year through its network of clinics - manages the largest pharmacy chain in the UAE serving nearly one million customers a year.

Consolidating on strengths and experience and backed by a track record spanning 15 years, the group offers total consultancy to new entrants to the field by providing turnkey solutions to healthcare initiatives.

The project consultancy division of the group offers complete solutions for new and existing projects in every area of the healthcare industry - right from concept to completion.

In addition, the group assists with the management of existing healthcare facilities with a view to turning them around in terms of service, quality and profits.

Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences, located in Kozhikode, Kerala, India, is another venture where the group has played a big role. MIMS, which was set up under the chairmanship of Moopen, is an advanced hi-tech multi-speciality referral medical institute for secondary and tertiary treatment.

The 450-bed hospital caters to northern Kerala's need for international standard healthcare facilities. The group which has already spread its wings in the area of education has big diversification plans in the service industry.
