Abu Dhabi competition: World awaits new 'strongest man'

Five events will propel one man as the winner of World's Strongest Man competition in capital

Abu Dhabi: The third and final stage of the World's Strongest Man (WSM) competition will have only eight men with super-energized determination to win the prestigious title of the World Strongest Man.and a cash prize of $6,000 (Dh22, 000). The runner-up will win a cash prize of $4,000 (Dh14,700) and the third a cash prize of $3,000 (Dh11, 000).

Contenders will have to perform their absolute best if they are to win the title of the World's Strongest Man on Tuesday night.

The eight finalists include five athletes ranked among the top ten worldwide namely British Mark Felix and Laurence Shahlai, Polish Krzysztof Radzikowski, American Josh Thighpen and Stefán Sölvi Pétursson from Iceland.

Day 3 competitions

Axle Deadlift: Athletes will attempt to dead lift a 300kg with giant wheels for as many reps as possible. The axle must be lifted on Referee's command, and lowered under control upon Referee's down signal. The contestant with the most approved lifts win. The athlete will have 75 seconds to complete as many lifts as possible.

Apollo Axle: on referee's command, a 130 kg axle is lifted from the ground then raised overhead extending arms and hold momentarily for the referee's "down" signal. Higher number of lifts wins. Time limit is 75 sec.

Farmers Walk: Competitors carry heavy objects weighing 160 kg in each hand for a distance of 50 metres and compete for the fastest time. Maximum time allowed is 75 seconds.

Truck Pull: The athlete will attempt to pull a bus over a 25  to 30 metre course using a harness and a rope. The contestant clocking in the fastest time wins. Each athlete will have 60 seconds to complete the course.

Power Medley (Carry and Flip):  Athletes will attempt to carry sandbag for a distance of 12 m, then Duck Walk a 260kg for ten metre and tire flips giant tires for 15 metres. The contestant with the fastest time wins. Athletes will have 75 seconds to complete the course.
