Dubai: Former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram believes India will enter next month’s Asia Cup in the UAE as the favourites, citing their strong recent performances.

“India has been in better form recently and will start as favourites,” Akram told Telecom Asia Sport. “But ultimately, the team that handles pressure best on the day will come out on top. This Asia Cup promises to be a treat for fans around the world.”

Looking ahead to the much-anticipated India-Pakistan showdown scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium, Akram acknowledged the intense hype surrounding the rivalry but urged both players and supporters to keep their emotions in check.

“These matches are always thrilling, and I expect this one to be no different,” he said. “But I also hope everyone, both on the field and in the stands, maintains discipline and doesn’t cross any lines.”

Akram also expressed his long-standing wish to see India and Pakistan renew their rivalry in the Test arena—something that hasn’t happened in nearly 20 years. However, he stressed that such a reunion would only be possible if fans show mutual respect and maturity.

“It’s my dream to see India and Pakistan play a Test series again. It’s been far too long, and it would be a historic occasion for both nations. But for that to happen, fans need to stay respectful and disciplined,” Akram concluded.
