Dubai: The year 2007 is very special for former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash.
The swanky Australian won at Wimbledon - his only career Grand Slam title - exactly 20 years back.
"It has been a long time and I do not have any thoughts about it now," Cash said at the announcement of the Legends Rock Dubai yesterday.
"For me, I am very lucky to be playing along with such great tennis players who have come for this event," Cash said.
Cash is one of the eight players featuring in this year's Legends Rock Dubai.
"For me, the most important thing at this moment is that I am fit and running about doing what I do best," Cash admitted.
"Secondly, I am enjoying my tennis and that too is very important to me."
His win against Ivan Lendl in straight sets in 1987 was recognised in his home country when he was inducted into the Australian Tennis Hall of Fame at the 2003 Australian Open. In doing so, Cash became the youngest ever inductee in an elite group of 25 that have been singled out for their contribution to Australian Tennis.
"I am constantly trying to keep up with these guys. It is not as easy as it used to be, but the main thing is that I am trying," Cash smiled.
Though considering himself an outsider for the title here, Cash still feels he can have a crack. "Hopefully, I have a chance in this tournament," Cash said.
He plays his first match tomorrow against another former winner at Wimbledon, Michael Stich of Germany.
"This should be an interesting match," Cash said.
