For local drivers, Maurice Faber will look to put in a strong performance
Dubai: Today's Radical Cup races at the Dubai Autodrome are set to see some new names on the grid and some old ones returning.
In the SR8 class, Edward Jones — the 16-year-old Formula Renault driver — is set to battle it out with Bassam Kronfli and Raed Hassan, the current class leaders. They will be joined by Kuwaiti driver Khaled Al Mudhaf, who is taking a break from the Maserati Trofeo Series and will drive the AUH Motorsports SR8.
In the SR3 class, Tony Wells and James Littlejohn from the UK will be going all out to consolidate their lead. Both drivers will then be flying overnight to the Ascari race circuit in Spain to join the European Masters Series testing.
Swedish driver Perry Johansson will be hoping to improve on his two second places at Yas Marina two weekends ago and snatch a place on the top step of the podium.
Exciting racing
Among local drivers, Maurice Faber will be looking to put in a strong performance in his new SR3, as will Al Hassan Ghzaiyl, who will be racing for the first time in the Radicals.
Qatar driver Abdul Rahman Al Thani will be running alongside UAE national co-driver Juma Al Daheri, while Mohammad Al Hammadi, another UAE driver, will also be competing.
Ben Foster, AUH Motorsports team manager, said: "The Yas event brought out some exciting racing throughout the field but at a price. With several cars suffering damages from collisions and spins, our mechanics have been working flat out to get the cars fully up and running for this weekend's event."
