Dubai:  For the fourth time the Mitsubishi Motors Beach Polo Cup will be played on the beach of the Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa, Jumeirah Beach, Dubai. The tournament will be played over the period of two days from December 29.

The game of beach polo was first created in 2004 by Rashid Al Habtoor and Sam Katiela.

It was then followed by the Miami Beach Polo World Cup in the United States in 2005.

Additional tournaments and matches have risen since then in Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Chile, Colombia, England, Germany, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, Uruguay and Wales.

The game consists of two three-player teams as opposed to the usual four-player teams in field polo, and of four seven minute periods of play, the ‘Chukkers'.

Star appeal

This year's much anticipated ‘fourth Mitsubishi Motors Beach Polo Cup' will include passionate polo players such as Mohammad Al Habtoor and Rashid Al Habtoor among others. A ‘sky diver' will kick-start the final match of the tournament.
