The UAE-based Ross Bain came back from a dislocated knee injury to secure his fourth win at the Dubai Men’s Open held at the Dubai Country Club’s Al Awir Golf Course.
The UAE-based Ross Bain came back from a dislocated knee injury to secure his fourth win at the Dubai Mens Open held at the Dubai Country Clubs Al Awir Golf Course.
Bain closed with a one over par 72 for a one under par winning total of 141 to claim the Dhs 7,500 professional winners cheque, the first prize trophy and valuable points on the UAE PGA Order of Merit.
There were occasions during the final day when it looked like the following pack, led by Simon Dunn (144) and Ali Misbah Al Khabi (145) may catch Bain, however he held his nerve and displayed some consistent form to retain the trophy he had won in 2003.
In third place was the ever present Malcolm Tennent (148) two shots ahead of the highest finishing Dubai Country Club member Tim Prescott (150) who produced an outstanding effort by matching the competitions record low net score by firing a Gross 68, Net 64 on the final day.
Juniors generally struggled with the sand course, but Khalid Yousef found the dunes to his liking with a fine net 138 to win the Net Division, ahead of Dubai Country Club member Tony Kettlewell (net 141) and Ed Hesson (net 141).
The prizes were presented by the Captain of Dubai Country Club, Andrew Robinson who commented: This years Open Championship has tested the quality players, with only a couple of rounds below par.
The 28th Dubai Mens Open was sponsored by local and international companies including Swiss International Airlines, Hepworth, Wafi City, World Wide Golf, Axa Golf, Mont Blanc, DUCAB, Almarai and Raymond Sports.
