Motivation no problem as Woods stays hungry for greater glory
Dubai: World number one Tiger Woods has revealed that his hunger to pick up trophies is greater than ever.
A winner of 72 tournaments, the American says motivating himself to add to an already bulging trophy cabinet will not be a problem.
"It's about the wins. If I've won them already, I'll go out there and win them again," he said yesterday in Dubai after jetting in to attend a press conference to announce the first Tiger Woods-designed golf course in Dubailand.
But he admitted that Tiger Woods at 30 years old is a far different player than the man who stormed on to the scene with a historic 12 shots Masters win in 1997.
"I'm a totally different player with a different technique.
"Back then, I didn't really understand how to maximise my effectiveness around the golf course - how to maximise my skills and my temperament and the understanding of how to shape shots," he said.
"I'm also a different person. I've had 10 years of failure and successes and 10 years of experience that have allowed my to keep elevating my game, but then again 10 years from now I'll be a totally different person and player than I am now."
Revealing details about the first Tiger Woods-designed golf course in Dubailand, Woods said the course will match his aggressive style and his love of the short game. "There is rich reward in this course, but I believe in the short game and having the opportunity to run the ball along the ground and use different spins and trajectories around the green," he said.
"I see a lot of the modern courses where that's being eliminated. One of the reasons why we, as professional golfers, love playing in the British Open is that those skills are given back to us - the ability to use the short game and not just miss a green and have to hack with a 60-degree lob wedge.
"The ability to use your touch and feel and play different shots is something that is being eliminated from the game of golf," he said.
