Mexicans defeat Brazil’s Internacional to book showdown with River Plate

Los Angeles: Mexican side Tigres advanced to the final of the Copa Libertadores on Wednesday with a 3-1 home triumph over Brazil’s Internacional, booking a showdown with Argentina giants River Plate.

Inter led 2-1 after the first match in the home-and-away semi-final, but Tigres erased that edge by half-time on a goal by Andre-Pierre Gignac in the 17th minute and an own goal from Geferson in the 40th.

Egidio Arevalo Rios scored in the 56th minute for Tigres and while Lisandro Lopez pulled one back for Inter in the 88th minute, Tigres advanced 4-3 on aggregate.

River Plate advanced Tuesday with a 1-1 draw against Guarani of Paraguay, sealing a 3-1 aggregate victory after winning the first leg 2-0 in Buenos Aires.
