Abu Dhabi: Much before Lionel Messi scored the match-winner in the second period of extra time to hog the limelight it was his teammate Pedro who scored an 89th minute equaliser and ruined Mauro Boselli's night.
Estudiantes were just about two minutes plus injury time away from shattering Barcelona's dream and the man who gave them that opportunity was Boselli with a brilliantly headed goal in the 37th minute.
The 24-year-old, who had left Boca Juniors to join Estudiantes and capped it by being their top scorer on way to winning the Copa Libertadores, said he was sad that his team could not make it.
‘Dream'
In reply to a question from Gulf News on whether he was considering a move to Europe after a fantastic season with the La Plata club, Boselli said, "It is a dream to play in a European League. I will just try and keep doing like what I did this season. Then I will wait for a good offer which will help both me and my club."
Commenting on the match, Boselli said, "We played against a team who know how to play and show it every time they play. We went prepared for them and we were almost home but we didn't have the luck...."
With the 2010 World Cup coming up next year, Boselli will be hoping that his national team coach Diego Maradona has been watching his exploits and will get a chance to display his skill at the highest level.
