Abu Dhabi: Bani Yas won the first GCC Clubs Football Championship beating Qatar’s Al Khor in the final 3-1 on aggregate, after a 2-0 victory in the second leg at Abu Dhabi late on Thursday.
The Abu Dhabi club drew 1-1 in the first leg in Doha.
Mohammad Abu Trika opened the scoring in the 26th minute and Nawaf Al Mubarak consolidated the lead with a 64th minute strike.
Bani Yas hit their stride early on with Andre Senghor from Senegal powering a header towards the Al Khor goal, but it was saved. The game soon drited into a midfield tussle before Abu Trika struck to put the Abu Dhabi club ahead.
Six minutes later Senghor lost an opportunity to increase the lead when his firm drive came off the Qatari goalpost.
Al Khor’s best chance came in the 41st minute when Brazilian Julio Cesar failed to make the most of a good chance.
Rida Shiba of the Al Khor team was sent off in the 79th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
