Al Nasr defeat Bani Yas to win League Cup

Dubai: Al Nasr clinched the UAE League Cup after defeating Bani Yas 4-1 in the final held at Khalifa Stadium in Al Ain. Al Nasr led 2-0 in the first half. Adnan Hussain, Modibo Diara and Marsio Marcos (two goals) scored for Al Nasr.

The tournament, which was held for the first time instead of the U-20 event, had 16 teams from the first and second division clubs.

Teams outside the FA also took part in the event. The clubs were allowed to play foreign players Under- 21 in the UAE League Cup.

Al Nasr topped Group A and beat Al Ain, who were second in Group B in the semifinals.

Bani Yas defeated Al Ahli after a penalty shoot out in the second semifinal.

Al Ahli won the third place after beating Al Ain 6-0 in the third place playoff.

Al Nasr coach Abdullattif Borayo said his team did well to keep the title they won last year.

"Our main target was to keep the title for the second successive season.

We worked hard from the first day of the preparation for the season.

"The players were excellent and fulfilled their promise and showed dazzling performances," said Borayo.

The Al Nasr team that won the UAE League Cup: Salim Abdullah, Darwish Ahmad, Humaid Abdullah, Abdullah Ali, Adnan Hussain, Fahd Ebrahim, Massaad Eisa, Sultan Ahmad, Mohammad Ebrahim, Abdul Karim Jamil, Faisal Abdul Rahman, Fahd Ali, Hamad Rabea, Hamad Jasim, Hasan Salim, Marsio Marcos and Modibo Diara.
