Hyderabad: Ruhunu XI defeated Leicestershire by four runs in their final pool match of the Champions League T20 qualifier at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here yesterday.
Leicester had the 161-run target very much in sight when they needed 29 off the last five overs, but England's T20 Champions could only make 156 for eight in 20 overs. Abdullah Razzaq's 46-ball 68 went in vain as the English side bowed out of the tournament.
The off-spin of Janaka Gunaratne (3/27) and Alankara Asanka Silva (3/29) led to Leicester's downfall and gave the Sri Lankan outfit its first win of the tournament. Dinesh Chandimal scored an unbeaten 62 off 51 balls in Ruhunu's 160 for six and was named the man of the match.
