Sharjah: Kashif Ahmad, a former Pakistan Under-19 cricketer, wrecked Malaysia to guide Consolidated Shipping Services (CSS) to a seven-wicket win at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in a warm-up match.
Kashif wiped off Malaysia's top-order, dismissing openers Rohan Selvaratnam and Arul Suppaih and one-drop batsman T.P. Kodikara to return with figures of 3 for 10 . He also got good support from Safdar Niyazi, who also took three wickets for 14 runs.
Malaysia, who were shot out for 73 in 18.3 overs, fought back through opening bowler Vicky. He dismissed opener Asghar Ali for four and had Shahimon caught behind for a duck.
However, opener P. Bakhtiyar steered CSS to victory through an unbeaten 35. He got good support from Atiq Ahmad (14) and Naeemullah, who hit an unbeaten 18. CSS won with seven overs to spare.
In the Under-14 Twenty20 tournament, sponsored by Pulse 95.3FM, DPS Young Talents Cricket Academy (YTCA), Sharjah beat Westminster YTCA.
Electing to bat, DPS YTCA's skipper Adil Tahir and Kurt put on a 140-run partnership. Adil hit 68, while Kurt top-scored with 70. DPS scored 207 for 2.
In reply, Westminster YTCA could only muster 104 for 4 in their 20 overs. Johnny was the top-scorer with 33 while Veni chipped in with 33 runs.
The YTCA also announced the Under-13 and Under-15 teams to take on the touring Sussex Club.
