Dubai: Former India cricket captain, Sourav Ganguly’s brother, Sneshash Ganguly and his wife survived a miraculous escape after their speedboat capsized at sea in Puri during a water sports activity.

Sheshash, 56, the former Bengal first-class cricketer and President of Cricket Association of Bengal, and his wife Arpita were rescued after huge wave hit the boat. Lifeguards used rubber floats to resue the pair in rough sea.

Snehasish Ganguly had played 59 matches for Bengal in Ranji Trophy, scoring 2,534 runs and taken two wickets.

Arpita raising safety concerns

“The sea was already very rough. There was a capacity of 10 people on the boat, but they allowed only three to four people on board. This was the last boat to go into the sea for the day. We had raised concerns over going into the sea, but the operators told us that it is fine,” NDTV quoted Arpita Ganguly as saying.

She said that as soon as they went inside the sea, a huge wave hit the boat.

“If the lifeguards had not come, we would not have been saved. I’m still in trauma...never faced something like this. If there were more people on the boat, maybe it would not have flipped,” she said.
