London: Stuart Broad warmed up for his return to Test cricket with a stunning career-best haul as Warwickshire were blown away at Edgbaston.

The England fast bowler took eight for 52 for Nottinghamshire ahead of this week's first Test against Pakistan and immediately declared himself raring to go after the frustration of missing the recent home series against Bangladesh.

Broad, 24, who bowled unchanged for his figures, claimed the first seven Warwickshire wickets on Thursday, including England teammate Jonathan Trott, before he was denied a rare crack at all 10 when Andre Adams removed No 9 Neil Carter.

But he earned special praise from teammate Graeme Swann after completing match figures of 11 for 131, another personal best, as the hosts were skittled for 100 en route to a 10-wicket defeat that lifted Notts, however briefly, to the top of the county championship.

"Swanny said from second slip that it was the most he'd seen me swing the ball for a couple of years," said Broad, who at one stage reduced the home side to 29 for six.

Wrist position

"It did feel like my wrist was in a good position and I was getting a little extra zip and bounce.

"In the second innings I really wanted to concentrate on making the batsman play every single ball and that's created a little doubt in them because they didn't feel comfortable leaving.

"There were a few nice balls in there today but there were a few soft dismissals too."
